March 2014 Results

March 2014 ResultsMarch really flew by. I'm really glad it's finally spring-like here (most of the time)! Here is my review of March:

2014 Goals:
  1. Increase EF savings account to $1,000 - PASSish - I increased savings more than I budgeted, but this was the lowest savings month I've had so far this year. On a positive note: my EF is just over 60% funded now!
  2. Demolish $10,000 worth of debt - FAIL - I didn't pay enough in January, February or March to be on track for this goal. I'm thinking about revising it. On a more positive note: I did pay off CC#3! This is not shown in the side bars yet as I won't update it until the statement showing $0 comes in April. AND I'm under the $18k mark for consumer & student debt!! I think I will be revising this goal to $7,500.
  3. NO OVERDRAFT FEES! - PASS - I didn't have any.
  4. Clear out clutter. - PASS - I only got rid of a few things in March, but at least I didn't bring in a bunch of new stuff.
  5. Continue going to Crossfit (affiliate link) 3x/week - PASS - I made good use of my membership this month.
  6. Paleo (affiliate link) 80/20 and eat down my non-Paleo food stores without replacement - PASSish - I didn't do Paleo, but I'm not making many replacements for what I eat out of my pantry.
  7. Loose weight and continue to tone-up - PASSish? - Again, I don't think I lost anything this month, but I didn't gain either.
  8. Continue to NOT chew my fingernails - PASS - I'm cured!
  9. More books, shoes and clothes out of my horde than new ones coming in. - PASS - Still a net reduction of 13 books for the year, and a few more clothes gone (see Thing Thursday posts: here and here). I also used the 1 in 1 out rule for a new pair of capris I bought.
  10. Read 52 books in 2014, that averages to 1/week - PASSish - I am still one book behind.
  11. Find areas to scale back involvement so I have more free time at home - FAIL - I'm still trying to figure out where to cut back on my schedule.
  12. Spend more time with family, friends and my pets! - FAIL - See #11 above.
Debt Totals:

2/28/2014 - $136,815.96 (including mortgage)

Thanks! I'm excited to be under $18k! April looks to be a tight, tight month so we'll see what happens.

So where'd the $220 surplus end up? (:

The surplus is from two things: transactions that haven't gone through my account yet and the rest is cash in my cash envelopes. I like to have a little extra in those cash categories to rollover for months when bigger purchases are needed. IE: bigger meat purchases for food, car repairs, etc

Nice job on getting under $18k! That's awesome. I've been trying to eat Paleo as well, and it's so difficult to give up certain things. I just read "It Starts With Food," which talks about how addicting junk food can be. I really want to try it when we move. I plan on taking advantage of cleaning out our food stores when we move and not replenishing the unhealthy stuff.

That's great that you got rid of CC#3! Looks like great progress on all accounts to me. I'm trying to eat healthily at the moment but I'm suffering from some serious food cravings right now!

Congrats on getting under 18k! Each 1k really is a milestone! Now that I'm going to at a more sedentary job, it really is going to be more important that I exercise everyday! Crossfit definitely is intense so good for you!

That is a great time to start! Moving is really like a fresh start. Good luck with starting Paleo. The first couple days are the hardest. :)

Food cravings are hard. They come and go for me, depends on the time of the month ;)

It sure felt like a milestone to get under $18k. Having a sedentary job is difficult, but I really like Crossfit for its intensity and how short the classes are. I don't have time to go to the gym for hours each day so I like that I'm in and out, warm up and cool down included, in about 1 hour. It's not for every one but it's great for me!
