Working on Clothes

Clothing De-ClutteringI put away my Christmas decorations the weekend before last and I also went through a portion of my clothes. I decided to break up the clothes project. I worked only on the clothes in the dressers this time. Here are the dressers:

They don't look messy from the outside, now that I cleaned off the top of the dresser the week before, but try to open a drawer or two and you will be shocked. Some of them have little "tricks" that you have to use to be able to open and close them since they are STUFFED to overflowing.

I went through each drawer one by one and only put back what I ABSOLUTELY wanted to keep. Then based on how much room was left, I put away some of the ones I like but are not my favorites. I did try to account for the laundry missing. Luckily, I do laundry on Saturdays and I did this project on Sunday, so not too many clothes were missing.

Here's what I got rid of:

There are a few things that are getting too big due to my healthier choices, but I didn't declutter them yet. I will be getting rid of them at the end of the season so I don't have to replace them until next Fall/Winter. This way I'll be getting rid of clutter but also saving some money by waiting to replace them until next year. If I replaced them now, they may not fit next winter and thus would have only been worn for 1/2 of a season. I also saved a pair of jeans from becoming clutter, for now at least, by repairing the button (affiliate link) so they will have at least a few more wears in them. They were practically new, just had a faulty button! (I couldn't return them as they had already been washed and worn when the button was discovered :( )

I have an abundance of socks. I will be decluttering them by progression, getting rid of but not replacing them as they wear out until I get down to a more reasonable number.

Next up for my bedroom is the closet. I still have the clothes in there and my handbags... gulp! I'm nervous about that one, but since I already tackled my shoes I think I can do it!

Wow! Congrats on your progess so far! I'm also in the process of paying down debt and de-cluttering your life. I hope you don't mind If I borrow your idea of blogging about decluttering my closet/dressers (...all 3 of them). I'm moving in about 3 months so hopefully I can get rid of a few things!

The closet is going to be the biggest chunk, so I've left it until last. I'm hoping my will power has built up some by then! ;)

I do not mind at all if you blog about cleaning out your clothes and dressers. It certainly isn't an original idea ;) Good luck to you! I hope to read all about your success soon!

Thanks Nony! You are a large portion of my inspiration. Yours is the first de-cluttering blog I ever stumbled upon. I'm so glad you started sharing your story and I'm glad you continue to do so today :)
